Abstract (EN)

Purpose: Suprapatellar fat pad edema (SPPI) is one of the causes of anterior knee pain. Shear wave elastsonography (SWE) is increasingly used in musculoskeletal diseases. The rate of using shear wave elastography (SWE) of the cross-section of tissue samples with these traces in SPPI and its usability as an auxiliary imaging method that provides an additional advantage in clinical follow-up. Materials and Methods: Thirty-five adult patients with CPIS and 31 volunteer control patients were included in the study. Suprapatellar oil squeegee stiffness degrees were measured in kPa as stiffness value. Differences in stiffness values between the control and patient groups were examined. Results: The stiffness value was found to be statistically significantly higher in people with SPPI when compared to the control group. Conclusions: In our study, we found that suprapatellar fat pad SWE stiffness values were higher in suprapatellar fat pad edema (SPYÖ) patients than in the control group, and this difference was statistically significant. Considering the easy applicability of ultrasound, increased speed or stiffness in elastography may be an indicator of edema in MRI and may help in the diagnosis. Therefore, in young patients with isolated anterior knee pain, no history of trauma or surgery, or meniscus/ligament pathology on physical examination, USG and elastsonography can be considered as the first-line imaging modality and may help in the diagnosis of suprapatellar fat pad impingement syndrome.
