Egypt's Africa strategy: Politics, economics, and security aspects

The growing importance of the African continent in international politics is mostly analysed within the framework of the strategies of non-continental actors. Unlike the related literature, this thesis analyses the political, economic and military strategies of Egypt, a North African country, towards other African countries. The thesis basically seeks to answer whether Egypt has an African policy or not. It analyses which regions in Africa are prioritised for Egypt, what Egypt can give to Africa in economic terms, and the level of Egypt's influence on Africa in the security dimension. The study focuses on the period from 2014, when Abdal Fattah al-Sisi took office, until 2024. Egypt's security strategies towards Africa, focusing more on the Nile Basin countries in the political and economic spheres, were revitalised during the Hosni Mubarak era. However, no significant defence cooperation was established with African states until 2014.
