Marketing research of corn seeds and factors affecting preferences of farmers: the case of sakarya province

In particular, considering the importance of human nutrition and its richness in other areas of use, corn grain, which is "summer grains" and "field crop", has a great importance. Therefore, in this research, corn seed which is the crucial for corn plant, market conditions in terms of seed varieties and reasons for being preferred by farmers intended to investigate. The main purpose of the research, it is Turkey's fourth-largest corn producer and Marmara Region's is the first in Sakarya province, public and private sector organizations producing, selling corn seed, to investigate their status in the seed market and to determine the factors affecting the maize seed preferences of maize producers. İn this study, with sample of Sakarya Province, examine of the corn seed market as a whole, find of corn seed varieties in the market and, questions in this market where intense competition, the determination of the factors affecting the market share of the organizations is one of the other purposes of the research. According to research findings; in the Sakarya province, Pioneer-DuPont's market share was 84.7%, 9.2% for Dekalb-Monsanto, 1.9% for Limagrain, 1.5% for Agromar, 0,8% for Syngentha, 0.8% for May, 0.8% Seminis and 0.3% for Golden West in 2014. Among the expectations of the producers from the companies, "provide seed guarantee" was the most important point by taking 5 points out of 5 according to Likert Scale Analysis. The most important issues detected for example, affecting producers' seed preferences of environmental impact "Tested in the environment" 4.9 points, plant characteristics "High yield capacity" 5 points.
