Muammer Sun?s Life and His Contributions to Educational MusicÖzlem YENERABSTRACTThis research has been realized for the purpose of determining theMuammer Sun?s contributions to Turkish Educational Music as an academician andcomposer who defends modernization while remaining Turkish and his place in theEducational Music area according to his mentality in Music.Research model is the ?example event scaning model?. As data collectiontools, ?structured interviewing technique? and ?scaning source? have been used.Research data has been created with the opinions of four experts from Sun?ssurroundings and with his students? ideas. In monographic studies, if the research isdone for a survivor, a one-to-one interview, which is made with that person is veryimportant. Thus, in this research, an interview with him has also been made togetherwith the people from his surroundings. Data has been analysed with one of thequalitative methods, ?descriptive analysis?.Main conclusions of the research are the followings :1. Muammer Sun?s basic opinion about the culture and music is ?Modernizationwhile remaining Turkish?.2. Muammer Sun?s prior purpose in education is creating a music culture that isformed by our national feelings and flavours.3. Muammer Sun is one of the most important people working to carry oursociety?s culture to the global quality by writing papers and books together with hiseducationalist personality.4. He uses Kemal lerici?s ?quarter system? in his compositions.5. He is the most important composer and educationalist composing Turkishschool music by considering the local elements.6. Sun has a patient, serious, helpful, tender, disciplined, investigative,fastidious, realist and frank character in his educationalist personality.
