The comparison of Ottoman and contemporary styles in jewellery

Jewelry begins with a process that follows the existence of mankind. The use of jewellery has its origins in the very beginnings of human life on the earth. Everything that seems bright and glorious has caught the attention of mankind. As a result, he processed the gemstones obtained from nature and created the jewel on the jewelry. Culture is one of the basic building blocks of society. Every society has its own culture. Just as every developed community has its own unique jewelry culture, we have our own precious jewelry culture. The Ottoman Empire, which created its own jewelry style by combining the contributions of ancient Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Seljuk to jewelry and jewelry design that preceded it, became one of the important actors of the jewelry culture of these lands. Today, we can get information about jewelry culture from people in the jewelry industry. However, it is difficult to learn about the jewelry culture of the Ottoman Empire, one of the states that pioneered the jewelry sector in our past. Written resources are needed in times when written resources are scarce and the masters who will tell about that period are gradually decreasing. In this study, comparisons between Ottoman and modern jewelry were made and differences in jewelry style and production between the periods were examined.The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship of the Ottoman Empire, which is part of our past,with jewelry production and compare it with today's productions in the production and use of jewelry. It is to restore the forgotten approach of today's jewelry culture. It is to convey the contribution of these accumulations to the present day.In the first part of the research; general information about the jewellery is examined. It is based on contributing to those who are engaged in the field.In the second chapter, the variety of jewellery and uses of the Ottoman Empire are discussed. In the context of history, technique, culture and social science, suggestions were made by comparing Ottoman and contemporary jewelry culture.
