The reinterpretation of mucur pillow carpet motifs according to contemporary art understanding

This study was conducted in order to reinterpret Mucur cushion carpet motifs according to contemporary art understanding. Content analysis technique, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the study in which a wide literature review was made. The population of the study consists of the Central Anatolia Region and the sample consists of the pillow carpets of Mucur district of Kırşehir province and the limitations of the study were determined as Pop Art movement and traditional motifs used in Mucur pillow carpets such as claw (hand, foot, comb, snapdragon) motif, frog motif, camel (camel neck, camel base) motif, dagger motif, corner motif, pıtrak motif, frowning motif, and bride crying motif. According to the results of the research: Claw (hand, foot, comb, snapdragon) motif is a pattern used in weaving to protect against evil forces such as evil eye, magic, sorcery, witchcraft and resembles a human hand Frog motif is a motif resembling a "tag" stamp located in the middle of the inside of the claw motif, and on both sides of the claw motif there is a motif known as camel (camel neck, camel base) motif in the region. This motif is usually woven on a pistachio green or mustard yellow ground colour, the dagger motif is a motif with serrated edges used in carpet weavings, the corner motif is used to create a decorative area especially in prayer rugs, carpet weavers decorate them with different patterns, commonly known as "bıtrak" in Anatolia and seen in the fields of Pıtrak growing in arid regions; The most commonly used motif in the narrow border, the composition consisting of zigzag lines and floral motifs placed above and below these zigzags is called çatıkkaş, and the bride crying motif is a floral ornament consisting of continuous repetition of floral patterns. In the study, it was concluded that although Mucur cushion carpets have an important place in terms of weaving culture and local weaving, weaving, which is a traditional art of Turkish culture, and accordingly, the motifs woven on Mucur cushion carpets can be rearranged according to contemporary art understanding.
