Keywords: Bauxite, Mechanical Activation, Thermal Analysis, SEM-EDS, X-ray Today, bauxite is seen as the most commonly used and economic raw material with known technological conditions for the aluminum production. The total reserve of the bauxite mine in Turkey according to the ore content and technological properties is about 400 million tones. Turkey has the 0,144 % percentage of the world?s total reserve if the bauxite production is the proportion to its consumption it seems to be sufficient for the future. The bauxite ore taken from Muğla was broken and ground under 100 ?m. First of all the sample was activated. For this purpose, planetery ball mill was used. For the investigation of the activation effect on the thermal property of the bauxite, 200 and 600 of the rotation number of mill per minute and activation time 75 and 300 minute were selected. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of the mechanical activation on the thermal properties of Muğla bauxite. In the dynamic studies, TA equipment, capable of draving the curves of differential thermal analysis (DTA), thermo gravimetric analysis (TG), derivative thermo gravimetric analysis (DTG) and differential scanning calorimetric analysis (DSC), simultaneously was used. Dynamic studies were carried out under nitrogen atmospheric conditions. The increase of temperature in furnace was as 10 °C/min. and the weight of the sample used was 50 mg. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was performed with a instrument. The phase composition of the treated powders was determined by X-ray analysis (RIGAKUD/ MAX/2200/PC).
