Abstract (EN)

This message aimed to achieve and study "Al-Hafni's Marginalia on the Grandson of Saad Al-Taftazani". The significance of this study lies in shedding light on one of the commentaries on the book Taleekh Al-Miftah by Al-Khatib Al-Qazwini, which is considered one of the most important books on rhetoric ever. This commentary also contains unique rhetorical benefits and witty notes that have not been studied before. It includes valuable and useful preferences that resolve any ambiguities in the commentary by Hafeed Al-Saad's grandson. The study reveals the high status of Sheikh Al-Hafni and the academic value of his book, along with his active participation in the political events in Egypt in the twelfth century AH. The researcher followed a descriptive historical approach in translating Sheikh Al-Hafni's work, employing investigative and commentary methods in editing, verifying, and comparing the three versions, returning statements to their contexts, and referencing Quranic verses, poetic verses, and prophetic sayings. The findings of the study are as follows: The footnotes contain the opinions of prominent figures in rhetoric, such as Al-Sakkaki, Al-Qazwini, At-Tabrizi, Ibn Arabshah, Al-Fanari, Al-Hafid, As-Safawi, Ash-Shunwani, Al-Yazdi, Ibn Qasim Al-Abadi, Yasin Al-Aleemi, Ibn Ya'qub Al-Maghribi, Al-Malwi, and others, some of which are only found in this book. The footnotes predominantly relied on conveying the meaning of statements and opinions, which posed challenges in documenting and attributing them accurately. Furthermore, the author extensively employed a logical and eloquent style inspired by Al-Hafid and Al-Tafatazani. In the margin, a scientific neutrality is evident in the linguistic preferences and choices, as Al-Hafni did not lean towards the opinion of Al-Mahshi, the grandson of Al-Saad, or any other scholars. He would discuss all viewpoints and choose what he deemed most accurate and compelling, showcasing his intellectual skill, cognitive independence, and broad knowledge. According to Al-Hafni, all subsequent scholars, such as Mustafa Al-Banani (d. after 1237) in his abridgment of Al-Saad Al-Taftezani, and Shams Muhammad Al-Anbabi (1313 AH) in his explanation of Tafatazani's key, and other scholars.
