Ibrahim TANÇ Assist.Prof. Abdulkadir YILMAZ The subject of this thesis, that, intellectual, man of letters, journalist and politician Muhammad Husayn Haykal and his thoughts. Who, one of their stamped the last century, especially first half. It's the great aim of this work to examine "the concept thought", as far as possible. Howewer, our first maine was his literary thoughts. We can summarize his conception of literary with these sentences: First of all, in his time the were few laws propecting the freedom of the individual and linguistic studies have a unique place among the reforms of the "modern Egyptian" period. Haykal regarded language as an important component of national identity and urged the whole administration-society to be very attentive for the Arab language to preserve its original beauty and wealth. But in spite of this determination, things did not move very smoothly. While centuries old problems created by the administrative and religious conventions were solved through revolutionary changes under Haykal and his followers leadership, when the same changes were extended to cover the fields regarded as the inseparable and unchangeable components of national identity, pre-Haykal period nationalists claimed in chorus that the country was in deep cultural crisis because these people were not able to grasp that these changes opened a period of freedom and that they brought a new concept of national society and were not at all the result of psychological crisis.
