The role of public education centers in accounting education: Bilecik Public Education Center application

Within the scope of lifelong learning it is aimed to contribute to the development of lifelong learning skills of individual through courses offered at Public Education Centers, which are one of the most importent non-formal education institutions in Turkey. How the trainees who attend the courses opened in the Public Education Centers learn and the skilss they acquire in these centers is an issue that needs to be investigated. The main purpase of this study is to evaluate the status and currency of training provided in the General Accounting courses opened at the Bilecik Public Education Center. In the study; it was evatuated in termsaf the teacher who gave the course, the trainees'general perceptions about the course they attended, gender, age, educational, status and demographic characteristics of the participants. The analyses were performed with the IBM SPSS statical programme. According to frequency and avarage results of the answers given by the trainees who took courses at Bilecik Public Educational Center and the participated in thesurvey, it was seen that the majority of the trainees stated the reosons why the wanted to learn something new and to get Professional know leage as the reasons for goining this course. In the t test analyses, it was found that there was no statistical difference between the gender, age, educational status of trainees. It is stated by the trainees that improving the physical conditions of the Public Education Center will maket he course more efficient. In addition, the trainees also indicate that they want to take General Accounting courses with different accounting package programs by providing the possibility of computer laboratories in Public Educations Centers.
