The relationship between the attitudes of engineer candidates' towards the engineering profession and the computer proficiency

In this research, has been investigated the relationship between the competence of using computer, which is one of the possibilities of constantly changing and developing technology, by engineer candidates and their attitudes towards the engineering profession. The attitudes of the engineer candidates towards the engineering profession and the computer competencies are also handled separately and differentiated according to independent variables have been revealed. The research was carried out using a screening model by "Attitude Scale Toward Teaching Profession" including 32-item as a data collection tool which was developed by Üstüner (2006). The validity and reliability studies were also done by him. Study has been adapted towards to engineer candidates and then it was applied. In addition, a "Computer Proficiency Scale" consisting of 10 items developed by Tınmaz (2004) was used to measure computer competencies of engineer candidates. Participants of the research are engineer candidates who are studying in the last class of Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Engineering during the spring semester of 2016 - 2017 academic year. A total of 293 engineer candidates participated in the research. As a result of the research, it has been seen that the engineer candidates' attitudes towards the engineering profession are high and their computer competencies are in the middle level. The relationship between attitudes of engineer candidates towards the engineering profession and the computer proficiency are meaningful, positive and very low.
