Barriers and solution suggestions for refugees and asylum seekers in Turkey in local and international business life

It is stated that due to Turkey's central location, Central Asia and the Middle East have hosted a large urban and mass migration of asylum seekers and refugees in the international migration process. In this research, the difficulties faced by Afghan people and Syrians under temporary protection and international protection status in Turkey during their entrepreneurial life and setting up their own businesses in their satellite cities were comprehensively examined. The aim of this study is, considering that the potential of making international trade is high for Afghan and Syrian asylum seekers and refugees, who naturally have relations with their homeland; There are economic, legal and social factors that prevent Syrians under temporary protection and Afghans under international protection from starting their own businesses in Turkey. obstacles were determined and solutions were searched by considering the suggestions for this. In this context, the potential of asylum seekers to establish their own businesses and to do international trade has been revealed. In addition, the difficulties and invisible obstacles that these asylum seekers and refugees face while doing their own work have been tried to be determined. It is aimed to understand the problems that asylum seekers and refugees face and their thoughts on Turkey. In this process, besides how the refugees in Turkey are welcomed by the society, their social and economic activities are also discussed. In the study, the purpose of asylum seekers and refugees to come to Turkey, the difficulties they face and their role in the regional society were analyzed by questioning. Thus, it is thought that determining the skills and business potential of refugees coming to Turkey and removing the obstacles will contribute positively to the country's economy and refugees. In addition, it is stated that as a result of the interaction of some of these refugees with their own countries, wealthy businessmen in their countries are encouraged to invest in Turkey. On the other hand, it has been observed that the problems faced by individuals who have established their own businesses, especially potential asylum seekers and refugees, are ignored. This research focuses on the experiences and life challenges of refugees who opened their own businesses with their own means. The study is based on a holistic and in-depth research focused on field research, adopting the qualitative data collection method with observation and interview technique. In this context, the most important criterion that determines the sample of the study (main mass) consists of Syrian and Afghan refugee entrepreneurs who own small and medium-sized enterprises in Turkey. In a way, registered Syrians under temporary protection status, which form the body of the study, are urban or self-sufficient refugee entrepreneurs and Afghan refugees under international protection and living with normal residence. Although these are entrepreneurs who have established their own businesses, the social level and the individual level are considered together in the measurement and analysis of the questions specified as sub-problematic. The data obtained through in-depth interviews on Syrian and Afghan entrepreneurs were made suitable for interpretation of coding/categorized information by content analysis method, and answers were received to questions about the formation and characteristics of refugee entrepreneurs. For this reason, the study is within the scope of "narrative studies" within the framework of the phenomenon of "refugee entrepreneurship".
