Abstract (EN)

This descriptive study aimed to determine activities of daily life (ADL) of patients with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). The study has been performed at neurolgy outpatient clinics from five state and two university hospitals which were located in Ankara between 17.08.2007 and 30.04.2008. The sample was composed stratified sampling method and total of 93 MS patients were includedData were collected using a questionnaire which was developed by researcher based on the literature. The questionaire consists demographic and disease characteristics as well as the questions about patients? ADL in last month. The data was analysed using descriptive statistics, Chi-square, Mann Withney U, Kruskall-Wallis H anad correlation testsIn this study, MS patients have problem about dimensions of mobilizing, working and playing, eating and drinking, eliminating and maintaining a safe environment. The factor effecting patients?s ADL were age, gender, time since diagnosis, prognosis having social suppot and problems in last month. As patients? total points about problems in last month rise, ADL subgroup and total points risThe results of this stduy showed that patients with MS are faced various problems regarding ADL. Suggestions have been made in order to support patients with MS about performing ADL.
