Abstract (EN)
In this study according to Mc Donalds? diagnostic criteria, in patients with the final Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis, it is aimed at examining the audiological characteristics by using pure tone audiometry and acoustic reflex tests and the clinical and videonistagmographic characteristics pertaining to vestibular involvement by using VNG sub-tests and researching the VNG diagnostic value in clinical and subclinical vestibular involvement.28 patients and 29 healthy people have been accepted for the study. The patients have been evaluated in Major Department of Ear, Nose, Throat and Audiology Department of Medical Faculty in Gazi University. The VNG evaluation containing pure tone audiometry (air and bone), acoustic reflex, VEP test, saccade test, tracking test, optokinetic test, Dix- Hallpike positional test, gaze test, and caloric test has been performed for both patients and the control group.In patients group the VNG finding showing the existence of pathology has been determined at the rate of 85% (n=24) and in control group at the rate of 10. 3% (n=3) and a significant statistical difference has been ascertained between the two groups. (p=0,00 ?? =0,05)In patients group the VNG pathology showing the existence of Central pathology has been determined at the rate of 78.5% (n=22) and in control group at the rate of 10.7% (n=3) and a significant statistical difference has been ascertained between the two groups. (p=0,00 ?? =0,05)A statistically significant difference has been determined between the VNG pathology patient group demonstrating the existence of peripheral pathology and the control group.Among the patients with otologic, autonomic, cerebellar symptoms that are associated with the vestibular symptom when compared with those who do not possess, there was a statistical difference only with the otolojic symptoms. (p=0,02 ?? =0,05).While no significant correlation was determined between the degenerated test number in the VNG and age, first attack age, period of disease, and total number of attacks, a statistically significant relation has been determined between the number of degenerated tests in the VNG and the EDSS score ( p=0,03 ?? =0,05 ).The fact that degeneration increased as the frequency increased in the tracking test and the evident increase in nystagmus observed while putting the patient into the seating position in the positional test are new facts for MS.As a result, our study firmly suggests that the use of VNG when obtaining information concerning the vestibular system is attempted in MS patients.
