Marshal Nusret Pasha (1824-1896)

The subject of this study is Nusret Pasha, statesman who has seen the reigns of sultans such as Mahmud II, Abdulmecid Abdulaziz and Abdülhamid II. Nusret Pasha, who graduated from the Military Academy and continued his education in Europe, came to the forefront with his own management style and personal characterististics in the civil service he took in the following periods. Besides, Abdulhamid's trusts has been earned by Nusret Pasha because of his personality, loyalty. From the first civil service that Nusret Pasha started his career to Sixth Army Inspectorate, what we discussed also reveals the panoroma of a period. In this study, it has been tried to understand the period in which Nusret Pasha served by putting his life in the center. Our thesis consist of an introduction and three main parts. In the introduction, biographies, parts of the study and the sources used are mentioned. In the first part, Nusret Pasha's family, education and first duties are discussed. In the second part, which constitutes the main part of the thesis, the province of Baghdad in the XIX. century and the duty of Inspector of the Sixth Army of Nusret Pasha are mentioned. In the last part of the thesis, Nusret Pasha's personality and the written statements which he wrote throughout his life are given.
