Transformations in Detached Housing Sites Problems and Identity: Trabzon example Housing, in our modern times has far exceeded the traditional meaning of meeting the physical, psychological and social needs of the users, and now it has gained a multidimensional meaning. The fast growing industrial life, and the technological developments, and the changing life styles, values, and expectations in our global world change the value judgments and the expectations of the users. The changing structure of the society and the socio-cultural values also change the structure of the family, an important unit of the society. There is a need to come up with flexible housing designs in order to meet the needs of the different family types. In this context, a study has been conducted to transform the changing demands, expectations, and choices of the users into the houses which occupy an ever increasing role in the urban texture. In the first part, the theoretical background of the study has been formed and the concepts such as the housing, social determiners in the house, user's needs, flexibility- variability-adaptability, culture-identity-housing and appropriation have been explained. In the second part, the problem has been introduced, and the reasons of the problem have been determined, and the aim of the study, the scope of the study area, and the method has been highlighted. In the third part, the study area, the introduction of the sites, the original housing plans, and the changes recorded in all houses have been presented. Moreover, the data including the distribution of the frequencies of the responses to the questionnaires have been analyzed and presented. In the fourth part, the findings of the questionnaire have been given. In the fifth part, the suggestions for further studies have been put forward in the light of the results provided in this study.
