Abstract (EN)
This study, titled " Population Geography of Nineveh Governorate ", examines the distribution of the population in the city of Mosul, its increase and the factors affecting the population, and aims to contribute to research and analysis in the field of population geography with the data obtained. The aim of this study, which includes analyzes of the characteristics and composition of the population, is to reveal the spatial relationships of the variation of the population phenomenon, to evaluate the current and future situation based on quantitative analyzes to describe and evaluate the population situation in the governorate. The study consists of three parts in which population characteristics and spatial variations are analyzed. The first chapter, under the title of "Geographical Distribution of Population", deals with three issues, namely numerical and environmental criteria. The second part is titled "Population Size and Growth" and includes topics such as population size, growth trends and population growth factors. The third part consists of the titles of "Age and Gender Structure", "Social Characteristics" and "Economic Structure". According to the results of the study, while the population of Nineveh Governorate increased from 2010 to 2014, it showed a decreasing trend since 2014. The governorate is located in a region where the general density is 92 persons/km² according to the 2013 census. The concentration of people living in the region is concentrated mostly in Mosul and a large percentage. In contrast, the western regions are less populated, creating an imbalance in the distribution of resources in the region. This imbalance leads to the natural, human and economic backwardness of the region and consequently the weakening of the state.
