The reasons of election among mutaāʿriz hadiths

In order to understand and to practice hadiths correctly, it is necessary to eliminate the discrepancy among them. The method of election is one of the ways to resolve the discrepancy in the science of mukhtalif al-hadīth. In order to prefer one mutaāʿrız hadith to another, there must be a superior specialty of it or the scholar who has a right to choose must show a reason. This study deals with the reasons of election which is one of the fundamental elements of the method of election to resolve the discrepancy among hadiths. The reasons which are used by scholars for the choice among hadiths were identified within the subject integrity; and in what way and in which situations were they used handled through the examples. Therefore, the study opened the way of revealing the relationship among the reasons of election. In the introduction part of the thesis, as a basis of the subject, after the explanations of the concepts taāʿruz and choice, the reasons of election were examined in two chapters; chain and text; and the reasons about the context. In the first chapter involving the reasons of the chain, all aspects concerning the narrator and chain were taken separately. In the second chapter, the study was concluded after discussing the reasons concerning the wording of the hadith texts' and their contents.
