Art criticism activities based on active learning in the museum: An example of a case study

Developments in different educational fields and the using of different method techniques and environments in the educational process have also been reflected in the realm of art education to reach a more contemporary dimension.Through art disciplines, art education provides critically self-expressing criticism and the training of individuals who discover many other characteristics. Art criticism which is one of the disciplines within the scope of art education, contributes to the development of features such as critical thinking in the person who learns and offers a very convenient space for contemporary method applications and environments. For this reason this research was prepared as a case study that deals with the art criticism lesson at the undergraduate level with the active learning activities in the museum. The working group of the research is composed of six teacher candidates who participating in the events within the lesson of art criticism in the museum. In addition to the focus group interview, data collection methods of observation and document review were used in order to ensure diversity of data in the survey data collection process. At the end of the research focus group interview with six teacher candidates was analyzed by descriptive data analysis method. The findings obtained by descriptive analysis were also supported by the findings of the observation process and the document review. At the end of the research art criticism lesson which is realized with active learning methods and techniques in the museum has been achieved as a result of contributing positively to the learning process and professional development of the teacher candidates.
