Özet (EN)
The art of illumination, which is among the historical book arts, dating back to Central Asian Turks, and which has become richer in color and motif over the centuries with the invention of paper and the turning of the Quran into mushaf, has developed in the process and very valuable and exceptional works have been created by the artists. Many mushafs, manuscripts and printed works are preserved within the Istanbul University Library, Rare Works Library and Turkish-Islamic Arts Museum. In this study, carried out as a master's thesis project, Mushaf-ı Şerif, inventory number A.6549 of Istanbul University Rare Works Library, belonging to calligrapher Hafız Osman and Illustrator Kanbur Hasan Çelebi, was examined in terms of the art of illumination of the 17th century and this work compared with the illuminated areas of the Mushaf-i Sharif with inventory number 405 in the Turkish Islamic Arts Museum, which belongs to the same century, the same calligrapher and illuminator. The research also included images and sketches of the works. In particular, the manuscript illumination, ketebe page illumination, 114 surah head illuminations and 141 Mushaf rose illuminations in the work were examined, and in this context, Mushaf roses were grouped in terms of form and motif features. Since only one of the Mushaf roses, which are divided into eight different groups, is double, it is handled differently. While it is seen that floral motifs are predominantly used in illuminated areas, the Rumi motif is also frequently used. All illuminated areas of the work provide integrity in terms of motif, composition, color and workmanship. It will be useful for researchers to catalog the mushafs in museums and libraries and examine them in terms of the calligraphy, binding, illumination and marbling arts they contain.
