Determination of the effect of background music on creative culinary applications

Gastronomy sector has become an ever-growing financial power in Turkey, which has a rich tapestry of gastronomical diversity. As a result of this, the focus on gastronomic education has substantially increased in Turkey. The increasing importance on culinary education both professionally and academically and prospective attitudes lead to an increase in the number of creative professionals in global perspective. Accordingly, "Creativity in the Kitchen" has become one of the most important components of culinary education. There is not yet a global and commonly accepted definition of notion of ''creativity''. However, creativity is considered to be concrete and measurable. In this context, it is of great importance to identify factors affecting creativity.It is observed that the effects of listening to music during practice and design on creativity have been studied in such fields as architectural design, creative writing and education. However, no study was found in the literature review examining the influence of listening to music during practice on creativity in culinary arts. Within this scope, this study aims to identify the effects of listening to music during practices of gastronomy and culinary arts on creativity. In this study, which was conducted within the scope of ''Creative Cooking Practices'' course held in Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department of Antolian University, an experimental method was followed. 20 students participated in the research as subjects. The research findings indicate that there is a meaningful difference between levels of creativity of experimental and control groups. It is concluded that listening to music during cluniary applications has a positive influence on creativity. Keywords : Creativity, Creative Culinary Applications, Music
