Abstract (EN)

This research aims to measure the effect of video feedback approach on music performance anxiety levels of undergraduate students who have been taking piano lessons at the second and third grades at Gazi University, Gazi Education Faculty, Department of Music Education. The research is carried out with experimental models. In order to determine the design of experimental model, it is used the pre-test and post-test control group design with one factor, multi experimental subjects. In the research, three different data collection tools are used. These are: 1) Music Performance Anxiety Inventory for Adolescents (MPAI-A), 2) Demographic Information Survey and 3) Video Feedback Form (VFF). ?Music Performance Anxiety Inventory for Adolescents? (MPAI-A) which contains personal information with 13 materials and developed by M.S Osborne and D. T. Kenny is prepared, adapted for Turkish and distributed to second and third grades by the researcher to define the experiment and control groups. After calculating all scores, experiment and control groups are certained by random sampling from two classes. This defined groups contains 52 participants as 26 people for second grade, and 26 people from the third grade. 26 participants who are defined for every class are assigned as experiment group with 13 participants and control group with 13 participants. For the experiment group from the two classes, two piano performances with the chosen two pieces are taken with camera to implement video feedback approach. The approach which is used among three weeks with one session for every week. After completing the sessions, the participants are left alone at the filming environment and they completed the Video Feedback Form (VFF) after every session by watching their whole performance scene. At the end of the three week implementation, ?Music Performance Anxiety Inventory for Adolescents? (MPAI-A) is distributed again and the scores are compared the pre-test scores. All collected data is transfered to SPSS (Statistical Package For Social Sciences), and then analyzed and interpreted. To examine the response of the participants for demographic information survey as descriptively; frequency, percentage, mean and standart deviaton are calculated. With the pre test and post test scores for MPAI-A from experimental and control groups, T test analyses are implented. Mean and standart deviation of the experimental group?s responses for video feedback form are calculated. To conclude, comparing the experimental group with control group, MPAI-A scores are found significantly lower after the intervention (video feedback). In addition, the responses of the participants for video feedback questions affected their performances in a positive way.
