The problems of instrument training in the process of music teacher training (Gazi University sample)

This research has aimed to determine the opinions of instructors and students about the problems in physical condition, curriculum, instructor and student aspects of the instrument education which is applied in the Division of Music Education, Department of Fine Arts Education, Gazi Faculty of Education, Gazi University and the difference between these opinions and to offer solutions in accordance with these opinions. 38 instructors of the division and 164 students have attended the research. The problems of the instructors and the students in the application of the instrument and piano courses which are done individually are converted into statements and a questionnaire form is prepared by the researcher to determine the attendance status.Depending on the outcome of the research, the most important problems regarding "Physical Conditions" are the lack of practice facilities at the school after working hours and during weekends, sound insulation and heat adjustment in the practice rooms, impossibility of having lessons with accompaniment and the drawbacks in terms of caring and repairing instruments. The most imprtant problems regarding "Curriculum" are inadequate weeekly course time, undistinguished course name and code in terms of instrument type and student level, inadequate credits of the course for the study it needed and the contents and the manner of application of the exams. The most important problems regarding "Students" are failure to make studies planned and programmed, failure to make studies which the course requires and hindering the studies during holidays. The most important problems regarding "Instructors" are failure to control the studies of the students out of course hours, failure to start and finish the course on time and using the course time non-productive.
