Investigation of the problems encountered by music teachers during the activities of certain days and weeks

This research, which was conducted to determine the problems encountered by music teachers in national days and weeks activities, was completed by applying the survey model using descriptive method. The study group of the research consists of 37 music teachers working in the centre of Batman province in the 2023-2024 academic year. In order to determine the problems encountered by music teachers in national days and weeks activities, a literature review was conducted and a questionnaire was applied to the study group. The questionnaire was prepared by taking the opinions of two music education experts and two assessment and evaluation experts. The questionnaire was applied to the study group online. In the study, it was determined that music teachers apply the celebration/memorial days of national days and weeks activities within the days/weeks determined by the Ministry of National Education and in line with the decisions taken at the department meetings, and that they use digital materials, performing arts, visual tools and equipment, and audio technologies in the celebration/memorial preparation activities. It was concluded that the school administrations provided transportation and financial support for the activity groups' concerts/recitals or performances in a different institution, music teachers carried out the preparation activities for celebration/memorial days after school and by starting extracurricular courses, student parents were reluctant in the preparation activities for celebration/memorial days and other branch teachers thought that the academic achievement of the students was negatively affected, and parents thought that the time spent by the students in the preparation activities for celebration/memorial days was a disadvantage in terms of time. It was determined that music teachers prepared activities in cooperation with other branch teachers, but the intervention of branch teachers regarding the content of the activities was high. It has been concluded that music teachers mostly conduct activities on Primary Education Week, 15 July Democracy and National Unity Day, Republic Day, Atatürk Week, Teachers‘ Day, Mehmet Akif Ersoy Commemoration Week, Acceptance of the National Anthem and Mehmet Akif Ersoy Commemoration Day, Martyrs’ Day, National Sovereignty and Children's Day and Atatürk Commemoration and Youth Sports Day celebration / commemoration days.
