An investigation of Cognitive-Behavioral, Orff and Nordoff & Robbins approaches in music therapy and research on these approaches

Music therapy; ıt is the systematic use of music by people trained in an approved music therapy program and experts in the field, in order to achieve the goals set in line with the client(s) needs and competencies. Although there are many applications and researches in the world literature about music therapy, it is still being structured in Turkey. It is assumed that this research will contribute to the shaping of the field of music therapy in our country. In this research, it is aimed to examine the Cognitive-Behavioral, Orff and Nordoff Robbins approaches and the articles on these approaches. The data group of the research consisted of Cognitive-Behavioral Music Therapy, Orff Music Therapy and Nordoff & Robbins Music Therapy approaches and research articles on these approaches. This research is a descriptive study conducted with a qualitative approach. The data group of the research consists of the mentioned approaches and research articles on these approaches. Data group; were examined by document analysis method, a scan was made for the first sub-problems and the content of the articles was analyzed for the second sub-problems. Accordingly, the articles; (a) journal in which the article was published, number of authors and year of the journal (b) work teams, (c) clients, (d) topics, (e) characteristics and arrangements of the environment in which the practices are carried out (f) instruments and tools used in their practices, (g) techniques and practices used in their practices (h) research models (i) data collection tools (j) data analysis and (k) results are presented. In this direction; the journals in which the articles on the approaches are published the most; "Music Therapy Perspectives, Journal of Music Therapy, The Arts in Psychotherapy". In terms of work teams, it has been determined that the approaches are affected by the disciplines they are affiliated with and the people in the team are not independent of the disciplines. In terms of clients; it has been determined that there are different clients in Cognitive-Behavioral Music Therapy compared to Orff Music Therapy and Nordoff & Robbins Music Therapy. In terms of subjects, it was determined that anxiety disorders in Cognitive-Behavioral Music Therapy, neurological conditions and disorders in Orff Music Therapy and Nordoff & Robbins Music Therapy were examined more. It has been determined that there is a tendency for an arrangement to be made in line with the needs of the clients in terms of the environments in which the practices are carried out. In terms of the tools and equipment used in the practices, it was determined that the people who applied the approaches preferred it or if there was an instrument group belonging to the approach, it was preferred. In terms of the techniques and practices used, it was determined that listening, singing, playing and improvisation/creativity were the most used techniques. In terms of the research models of the articles, data collection tools and data analysis; While more quantitative methods were used in Cognitive-Behavioral Music Therapy and Orff Music Therapy, qualitative methods were used in Nordoff & Robbins Music Therapy. Finally, the findings related to the results of the articles were examined and it was determined that although music therapy didn't make a significant difference in some studies, it had a positive effect in most studies.
