The major ideological/intellectual sources of musicology in the 19th and 20th centuries and its propositions to the literature today: Nationalism, Social Democracy, Socialism, Anarchism, Liberalism, Feminism, Fascism, and Conservatism

The main purpose of this thesis is to reveal the ideological tendencies in the music history literature through the dominant political ideologies of the 19th and 20th centuries, namely nationalism, social democracy, socialism, anarchism, fascism, liberalism, feminism and conservatism, and to provide an insight into the projections of ideologies in the field of musicology. In the music history literature, it is obvious that the relations of music with social values and politics have been kept in the background for many years. Although there has been an increase in studies on the relationship between politics, ideology and music in the last fifty years, the idea that musicologists' studies are independent of values and ideology is encountered to be as a common canon. This study argues that, contrary to popular belief, political ideologies and ideological value judgments are quite common in the field. In the study, the main concepts, discourses and approaches of the dominant political ideologies of the 19th and 20th centuries were determined in order to show the projections of these phenomenae in the literature; based on this context, the projections of ideologies in the literature of music history were analyzed. During the analysis, the transformations of political ideologies in the historical process were also taken into account; It has been avoided to follow a concept-oriented approach alone. As a result of the research, it has been concluded that political ideologies show themselves widely in the literature, either implicitly or explicitly. At the same time, it has been observed that ideological studies in the field of music history need an integrated and systematic scientific framework. For this reason, it is thought that this study, which is carried out with a theoretical and conceptual approach, should be supported by studies involving other main methods.
