Synthesis and spectroscopic characterization of n,n'-diacetonitrile methacrylamide with alkyl methacrylate copolymers

In this study, N,N?-diacetonitrile methacrylamide (DAMAAm) monomer was synthesized by the reaction of N,N?-iminodiacetonitrile with methacryloyl chloride at 0-5 oC in the presence of triethylamine. The structure of monomer was characterized by, FTIR, Raman, 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR spectroscopic techiques. Copolymers having various DAMAAm with alkyl methacrylates [ methyl methacrylate (MMA), ethyl methacrylate (EMA) and n-buthyl methacrylate (n-BuMA) ] contents were prepared in 1,4-dioxane solvent using % 1 AIBN as initiator at 70 °C with the high conversions ~ of % 75. The FTIR, Raman, 13C-NMR and 1H-NMR spectra of the copolymers were discussed. The glass transition temperature of polymers were investigated by DSC. The copolymer composition were determined by elemental analysis. Monomer reactivity ratios were calculated both Finemann-Ross (F-R) and Kalen-Tüdös (K-T) methods, and a nonlinear error invariable model method with the computer program RREVM. The values of r1 and r2 obtained by the three methods appear to be in close agreement with each other, i.e., rDAMAAm = 4.6438 and rMMA = 1.2372 for the copoly(DAMAAm-MMA) system, rDAMAAm = 3.6454 and rEMA = 1.2456 for the copoly(DAMAAm-EMA) system, rDAMAAm = 4.6085 and rn-BuMA = 1.0008 for the copoly(DAMAAm-EMA) system. All the three copolymer system r1(rDAMAAm) >> 1 ve r2(rMMA, rEMA, rn-BuMA) ? 1 and the copolymers will have a block arrangement of units.
