Verbs in Nakşî Divanı

In this thesis, the place of the verbs used by Nakşi, a Halveti sheikh known to have lived in the 17th century, in his work Divan, in his style has been examined. Most of Nakşî's life was spent in Crimea, where he continued his Sufi activities. While continuing his Sufi activities as a sect, he aimed to convey his advice to different segments through literary texts besides conversation, and like many other Sufi pioneers, he put his thoughts and advice into verses through poetry. Since he was a poet read by large sections of the public throughout history, his divan has a lot of manuscripts as well as a printed copy belonging to the post-Tanzimat period. This study, which focuses on language research on the divan of a Sufi poet whose poems have been found popular among the people, is a stylistic analysis in which verbs are centered. Thus, it is aimed to contribute to the grammar and style studies about how the content of the mystical texts written in Turkish is reflected in the choice of words and therefore on the style of the man of letters. Considering the poet's life, mystical journey and religious position, the verbs he used were approached through these windows. The verbs he used in his divan were thoroughly reviewed, and it was determined that he gave weight to the senses, perception and actions related to mysticism with certain moods and personal suffixes. Thus, this classification was found appropriate in order to evaluate his style through verbs. In the first part of the thesis, information was given about the situation of Sufi life and Sufi literature in the period when Nakşî lived. In the second part, the verbs Nakşî used in his divan were examined under three headings, namely sensory verbs, cognition verbs and mystical verbs, together with the modal and personal suffixes they are used in sentences. In the third chapter, the divan copy of Nakşî, which is the subject of the thesis, was translated into Latin letters. The index of the words in the Divan was added to the fourth part, and the facsimile of the copy was added to the appendices part of the thesis. Keywords: Nakşî, verb, mysticism, sense, comprehension.
