Childhood traumas and child rearing styles in the relationship between narcissistic personality traits and social anxiety

Abstract (EN)

The main purpose of the study was to examine the importance of childhood traumas and child rearing styles in the relationship between narcissistic personality traits and social anxiety. The sample of the study consisted of 321 participants over the age of 18. Informed Consent Form, Personal Information Form, Narcissistic Personality Inventory, Childhood Traumas Scale, Liebowitz Social Anxiety Scale, Child Rearing Styles Scale were collected online from the participants. Structural Equation Model was used in the analysis of the research. The results obtained within the scope of the research can be summarized as follows: Narcissistic personality trait has an effect on social anxiety. It was found that the anxiety of individuals with narcissism decreased. There was no significant difference between narcissistic personality traits and childhood traumas. There was no significant difference between narcissism personality traits and child rearing styles. The effect of childhood traumas on social anxiety was found to be negative, that is, the anxiety level of individuals who experienced trauma decreases. The effects of child rearing techniques on narcissism personality traits and social anxiety were not found significant.
