Symbolic understanding in still life paintings

This study was prepared as a Master's thesis in the Painting Department of the Social Sciences Institute of Batman University. The subject of this thesis is to study the symbolic understanding of the objects used in still life paintings. To investigate what the objects or objects used in still life are, and especially why artists use these objects, why they include them in their works, what these objects mean and what they evoke, especially the use of food in still life subjects and the meanings of these foods in terms of symbols or symbols, is to analyze. In this study, we will focus on the development of still life, the reasons why it is painted by artists, and the subjects, paints and objects they use in the paintings of artists known in this branch of painting, and the symbolic meanings of these objects. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of the use of symbols arising from the need for social communication and also the use of such effects in still life paintings. To reveal the place and importance of still life and the objects used in still life in fine arts, to investigate what the objects used in still life are, to handle and analyze them in terms of symbols that show themselves as a form of expression, to examine the artists and their works in still life and to understand the symbolic meanings that give meaning to the objects used by these artists. It is examined and examined by considering what it is and what it aims for, and what these are are given by literature review. The use of symbols in painting has been reflected in the works of artists since ancient times as one of the important artistic elements that reflect the age and period in which they live in different periods. In this regard, I aimed to examine the technical themes chosen by the artists who painted still life in terms of subject matter. Then, my own works are included. In the last section, the method of the study, findings and conclusion are included.
