Examining the effect of teraupeutic touch and mother voice on pain and comfort level with nazal CPAP

Aim: The aim of this study was to examine the effect of terapoutic touch and mother voice on preterms with nazal cpap. Materials and Methods: The research was carried out between April 2019 and August 2020 in the 28-37 weeks in the 124 preterm newborns of Gaziantep Cengiz Gökçek Gynecology and Child Hospital where newborn intensive care units received nazal cpap. The newborns that met the study criteria from the specified phase formed the sample of the study. The newborns were given a mother voice, teraupeutic touch and mother voice+ terapeutic touch by the preterm mothers and researcher. No other procedures were administered to the infants in the control group. Pain and comfort level values of the infants were measured using Neonatal infant pain scale (NIPS) and prematüre infant comfort scale before procedures, during procedures and after procedures. The data was recorded by the researcher " Trial Follow- up Form". In the evaluation of the data were used frequency distributions, ANOVA, chi square test. Results: The NIPS pain score and PBKÖ score mean avarege of therapeutic touch, mother voice+therapeutic touch and mother voice in preterm neonates during and after nasal cpap procedures were found to be statistically significantly lower than the control group score avareges (p<0.05). Therapeutic touch and maternal voice+ therapeutic touch groups have similar NIPS pain score and PBKÖ mean scores during and after the procedure. The difference was found to be due to the mother voice and the control group and before the procedure. Therapeutic touch, mother voice+ therapeutic touch and mother voice were found to be effective in NIPS pain score and PBKÖ mean scores during and after nasal cpap procedures, respectively. Conclusions: This study found that there was a significant difference between the pain and comfort levels, the duration of receiving nazal cpap and after procedures were effective in decreasing pain levels and increasing comfort levels. It was thought that due to the possitive effects of the applications could be used in neonatal care. Keywords: Nasal cpap, therapeutic touch, mother voice, pain, comfort level
