Abstract (EN)
Background: The aim of this study is to evaluate the impact of chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis (NP) on sleep pattern and sleep quality before and after functional endoscopic sinus surgery by subjective and objective parameters. Methods: Twenty-two patients with NP were evaluated. All subjects underwent assesment of nasal endoscopy, acoustic rhinomanometry, computed tomography and polysomnography. Sleep patern and sleep quality were evaluated Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI), Epworth sleepiness scale (ESS) and polysomnography (PSG) before and 6 months after the functional endoscopic sinus surgery. Results: Nasal resistance decreased after the surgery (p=0.010). Postoperative PSQI and ESS scores were significantly lower than preoperative scores (p=0.0001) (p=0.0001). The preoperative mean value of total apnea index and apnea-hypopnea index were found 25.41 and 13.32. After the surgery, total apnea index and apnea-hypopnea index significantly decresed to 7.77 and 11. 21 (p=0.09) (p=0.019).Conclusion: In patients with NP, functional endoscopic sinus surgery improves the sleep pattern and sleep quality. NP may be a predisposing factor for sleep related respiratory disorders.
