A group of stone artifacts in the Nazilli district center

Nazilli is a town established by the Menderes River in Aydın Province. The district has hosted different civilizations in history and has continued until today. The water opportunity provided by the Menderes River, fertile plains, natural defense architecture, being on an important road route connecting Ephsos to Celenai in ancient times, and being on the road route connecting İzmir to Denizli today have made Nazilli important both in the past and today. The earliest settlement in Nazilli starts with Toygar Höyük in the Late Chalcolithic Period. This settlement, which started with Toygar Höyük, continued until the Middle Ages with Harpasa Ancient City, Anineta Ancient City, Mastaura Ancient City. Today, the settlement continues by intertwining with the Ancient Period settlements. Although different studies have been carried out in these settlements hosted by Nazilli, a full-scale excavation has unfortunately not been carried out yet. The start of these excavation works, which will shed the most light on the history of Nazilli, will be an important development for the history of Nazilli. The data we have that will enable us to understand the history of Nazilli are the information conveyed to us by ancient writers and European Travelers, numismatic data, ceramics, building remains and architectural stone works that constitute the main subject of the thesis. Architectural stone works in Nazilli Yahya Paşa Mosque, Ağa Mosque, Çarşı Mosque, Sümer Recreation Area and Dallıca Mah. moved to the square. These works consist of two sarcophagi, an altar, eight postaments, two pedestals, fourteen column drums, a pier capital, a column capital, an architrave, and two inscribed blocks. The earliest of the works are dated to the Hellenistic Period. Although there are pieces dated to the Byzantine Period besides these pieces, these pieces were not included in the thesis.
