Dr. Kâzım KÖKTEKİN Having had an important place in General History, Nazmi-Zade Murteza's Gülşen-i Hulefa is a very important book in providing valuable information about the collapse of Emevî Chalifat, the establishment of Abbasî Chalifat; the construction of the city of Baghdad and the states established after the collapse of the Abbâsîdes; the conquest of Baghdad by the Ottomans, and most importantly the second conquest by Sultan Murad IV. Has within the country as well as. Gülşen-i Hulefa has many manuscript and published copies in the libraries both in this country and in abroad. This study, which aims to introduce a critical translation of Nazmî-Zâde's very important work to the academic world, contains and introduction and four chapters. In the introduction, books that had been written exclusively an Baghdad will be discussed and the place of Gülşen-i Hulefâ among these books will be discussed. The first chapter is divided into two subchapters. The first of these subchapters includes information about the life and works of the author. In the second subchapter Gülşen-i Hulefâ's different editions are discussed; translated edition is compared to other editions; and reasons for the translated edition are discussed. Furthermore, aim and contend of the book is explained, as well as the author's language, method, historiography and historical philosophy are expressed. In the second chapter the establishment of Baghdad, root of the name "Baghdad," its importance for the Abbâsîd, states that controlled Baghdad after the Abbâsîd, erection of the Ottoman rule over the city, its importance for the Ottomans, and governors appointed by the Ottomans and activities of these governors are discussed. The third chapter provides information about the Emevies, Abbâsîde Caliphs, the Turks, the Mongols heterodox Muslims, the Sultans of the Saljukids the Ottoman Sultans, the Ottoman governors of Baghdad, Shias, Iran and ceremonies. The finale chapter contains methods applied to this study.
