Özet (EN)

The aim of this study is to examine Necati Mert's essays and biographical works and to make inferences about the genre and the author. While there are extensive studies on Necati Mert's stories, it is seen that there is no research on his essays and other writings. From this point of view, it is aimed to conduct research on Necati Mert's essays. The scope and limitation of the study consists of the author's ten essay books and two biography books. Necati Mert's essays and biographical works have been examined in detail. Adapazarı; is especially important for the author, who focuses on the concept of provincial-center. Mert, a storyteller of Adapazarı, and one of the writers of the 70's generation, sheds light on Turkey's agenda in Adapazarı. With the information obtained, inferences were made about Necati Mert's essayism. These inferences have been enriched by presenting sections from Necati Mert's writings. In his essays, Necati Mert dealt with the provincial-central opposition and evaluated the center's view of the provinces. While the center aimed to dominate the provinces, Necati Mert directed his criticism at this point and was assassinated by some circles. In the essays of Mert, who continues his art by looking from the countryside to the center, Adapazarı is presented as the protagonist of his writings rather than the place. While creating his essays, he was inspired by mythology, legends, his grandfather from Çorum, and the living side of Adapazarı. The author, who did not leave Adapazarı except for his university years, strongly opposed the fact that this place was called Sakarya. For the author, who resigned from teaching and established a bookstore after being recruited into the ministry, this place constitutes the panorama of Turkey for forty years. Necati Mert, who witnessed his period, handled the change in Turkey with his strong observation in Adapazarı. Prioritizing the moderation of change, Mert drew attention to what has been lost in society. He criticized modernism. He evaluated the tragedy of human beings in daily life, being away from the past and locality, urbanization, loneliness, disappearing values, traditions, deteriorating human relations, corruption, modernizing and secularizing daily life in the context of the province.
