Neoliberal globalization and populist tendencies: An evaluation in the context of 2007-2009 global financial crisis

Özet (EN)

In this thesis, the relation between neoliberal globalization and populist tendencies in the world is discussed. The role of neoliberal globalization in the 2007-2009 global financial crisis was questioned, and the effect on the world of economic inequalities such as income distribution inequality, unemployment or salaries of workers has been researched based on empirical evidence. Surveys in the US and European countries have been used to see how these economic inequalities affect people's socio-economic situation. The surveys have shown that low-middle-class people living in the US and European countries are particularly give negative reaction to the economic globalization that is badly affected by the crisis and therefore the cause of the crisis. However, the increasing tendencies towards populist parties, which are clearly seen in the increasing populist rhetoric associated with these periods and in the election results in many countries of the US and Europe, are quite meaningful. The end result of the study indicates that the irritated and angry people due to adverse economic conditions have returned as support to the populist parties which using xenophobia and racism.
