Abstract (EN)

Aim: The aim of this study was to neonatal anthropometric measurements in newborns born in Çukurova University Faculty of Medicine between 2012 and 2016 and investigation of factors affecting it. Materıal and Method: This is a cross-sectional study. Our study was conducted on 1573 newborns born from mothers aged 18-40 between January 1-December 31, 2012 and January 1-December 31, 2016 at Çukurova University School of Medicine and whose gestation week is between 37 weeks and 40 weeks+6 days. The study did not include newborns with multiple pregnancies, chromosomal anomaly or congenital anomaly, and those with maternal and placental disease that may have an effect on neonatal anthropometric measurements. As a statistical analysis, the statistical significance level of the square test statistic was taken as 0,05 in the comparison of categorical measurements between the groups. Results: The average age of mothers who gave birth in 2012 was 28.78 ± 5.265 newborn average weight 3263.69 ± 439.843 grams length 48.742 ± 2.0314 cm head circumference 34.929 ± 1.5409 cm. In 2016, the average age of the mothers who gave birth was 28.69 ± 5.593 newborn average weight 3324.32 grams ± 490,148 length length cm 49.763 ± 2.0744 head circumference 35.093 ± 1.7367 cm. Neonatal weight, length and head circumference in 2016 were significantly higher than in 2012 (p<0,01). However, births in 2016 significantly were occurred more advanced gestation week than births in 2012. (p<0,01). Measurements of newborn weight, length and head circumference for 2016 were measured larger during the same gestation week but the difference was not statistically significant (p > 0,05). In terms of gender, male infants were found to have a significant increase over all anthropometric measurements (p<0,01). A significant correlation was found with the following pregnancy week in terms of birth weight and height measure, but for the head circumference only 37. Week values were found to be significantly less(p<0,01). The season in which the birth took place could not be shown to have an effect on the results (p > 0,05). Although the difference was not significant, the rate of babies born macrozomic in 2012 increased from 4,9 % in 2016 to 8,1 %. Conclusion: When we compared 2012 and 2016 in our study, we found a significant increase in anthropometric measurements for 2016. Anthropometric measurements of male neonates were higher than female neonates. The parity of the mother was found to have an effect on the anthropometric measurements of the newborn. APGAR scores of newborns with normal birth weight were found to be higher than high and low birth weight newborns. In addition, in our study, it was found that the seasons had no effect on birth weight. Key words: Neonatal anthropometric measurements, pregnant, newborn
