Abstract (EN)

Natural cold storages in Nevşehir are special and unique examples in the world, where one can naturally store many products. Even though such storages are suitable for many products, they are mainly used for storing potato and lemon. In those storages, both locals and people of different regions, especially from Mersin, work as seasonal workers. This situation also causes significant socio-economic changes and mobilization for locals and settlers of Nevşehir who welcome these seasonal workers and their families. This study is conducted in the city of Nevşehir and its counties due to its significant potential for its natural cold storages. Numerous topics have been examined in this study, including the social and economic profiles of seasonal workers, their rural/urban origins, their experience and willingness to keep working, their position, their working and living conditions, their work and health insurances, the impact of those conditions on their families, and the level of education and awareness of them. According to the results, even though such storages are important for the products that are stored, the environment and living conditions for seasonal agricultural workers are not enough. In terms of transportation, shelter, health, wages, and many other social security issues, workers are weak against intermediaries and employers. Such problems require close attention, support, and enforcement by local authorities as many similar problems in different parts of the country.
