Neyzen Halil Can's life, his works and contributions to Turkish religious music

The aim of this study is to evaluate the work of neyzen Halil Can, who lived between 1905-1973, as a musician and his position in the field of religious music in Turkey. The first part of the study, which consists of four parts, is devoted to the life of Halil Can. Sections such as family, birth, education, professional life, marriages and death were evaluated in the first part. In the second part, Halil Can's musicianship, teachers, teaching, students, Sufi personality and sheet music collection are included. Under these headings, Halil Can's artistic personality and the factors affecting the formation of this personality were evaluated. In the third part, Halil Can's thoughts on music; It has been examined through his articles and writings. In the fourth part, his musical works and works in the field of music are included. In these sections, it is understood that Halil Can is a very important name for the field of music and a name that contributes to this field. In this study, in which pharmacist Lieutenant Colonel Halil Can is evaluated as a musician, several features stand out. Halil Can, as a Mevlevi musician who has seen a lodge, is a name that represents the traditional understanding of music in the Republic. Secondly, although not musical, his academic studies have been a source for the researchers who came after him. Finally, he ensured the continuity of a style with the students he trained.
