Abstract (EN)
Over the years, sustainability failings, inadequate social capital, communication breakdown, intense social movements, stakeholder activisms as well as less stakeholder engagement initiatives, among others, have led to poor CSR initiatives in Nigeria. The study identified the importance of CSR in relation to stakeholder engagement strategies; how learning could emerge and the level that could be attained were also in perspective. In the light of the analysis, stakeholder engagement in relation to CSR gives room for philanthropy, aligning of strategies, adherence to ethics, boosting of reputation, containing business risks and other infrastructural development. Involving companies were explorative, producing higher tendencies to uncover new things. Data collected indicated responding companies' chances were averagely inclined in nature, that is, they gradually fine-tuned their operations. Informing companies were the least. In essence, responding and involving companies yielded more trust and commanded respect from their stakeholders. Such engagements and adherence gave the companies an edge to remain competitive which makes them marginally profitable to significantly profitable. In terms of theoretical impact, the study also confirmed the importance of stakeholder theory in managing relationships. To find these, the research resorted to grounded theory and multiple case studies. Series of interviews was also conducted.
