Özet (EN)

Nikaia is one of the important cities during the Antiquity. In fact, Nikaia had drawn an image of a constantly developing city and became the capital city of the great empires such as the Eastern Roman Empire, the Anatolian Seljuks, and the Ottoman Empire. The city owes its importance to have a temperate climate, fertile landscapes and convenience to defend due to its establishment at the coastline of the Askania Limne (Lake of İznik). As a result of these opportunities, many settlements were built in the city walls and outside the city walls. Due to its location on the North Anatolian Faultline, the city has suffered many destructions throughout its history, during which the shoreline had slipped and caused a catastrophic tsunami. No further research on this subject has been done except for basilica excavations and port researches. Therefore, the thesis aimed to evaluate the archaeological remains at the coastline in whole.
