Abstract (EN)

INVESTIGATION OF THE NITROAROMATIC EXPLOSIVE DEDECTION POTENTIALS OF CU(II), ZN(II), CO(II) AND NI(II) 2,4-DIHYDROXYBENZOATE COMPLEXES WITH NICOTINAMIDE (Master's Thesis) Mehmet Fatih YASUL ISKENDERUN TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY INSTITUE OF GRADUATE STUDIES January 2024 ABSTRACT Today, the importance of explosives detection is increasing day by day due to the increasing terrorist activities. Therefore, there is a need to adapt existing methodologies to emerging technologies and to explore new methodologies In this study, the potential of nicotinamide Cu(II), Zn(II), Co(II) and Ni(II) 2,4- dihydroxybenzoate complexes to detect nitroaromatic explosives was investigated based on their optical absorption and fluorescence. This system is based on the underlying properties of nitroaromatic explosives to absorb light in the range of approximately 350 - 500 nm. This is an extremely important study to protect both people and security forces from such attacks due to the increase in terrorist activities worldwide and the use of nitroaromatic explosives such as TNT, 2NO2, 3NO2 and NH4NO3. In this study, the fluorescence properties of new nicotinamidated Cu(II), Zn(II), Co(II) and Ni(II) 2,4-dihydroxybenzoate complexes, which absorb rays with wavelengths of about 350 - 500 nm and radiate at wavelengths of about 350 - 500 nm or longer, are utilised. The quenching potential of the fluorescence of nicotinamide Cu(II), Zn(II), Co(II) and Ni(II) 2,4- dihydroxybenzoate complexes in the wavelength range 350 - 500 nm by nitroaromatic explosives such as TNT, 2NO2, 3NO2 and NH4NO3.was determined. Absorption spectra were recorded with the help of UV-Vis spectrophotometer. Upon excitation with 300 nm wavelength light, their radiations were recorded by fluorescence spectrophotometer. Thus, the potential of nicotinamide Cu(II), Zn(II), Co(II) and Ni(II) 2,4-dihydroxybenzoate complexes to detect nitroaromatic explosives was determined. Key
