Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACTEFFECTS OF NITRIC OXIDE LOADING ON THE ENDURANCE PERFORMANCEAkgün, AliMS, Education of TrainingAdvisor:Asst. Yrd. Doç. Dr.H. Birol YALÇINSeptember 2005, 104 pagesThe purpose of this study is to determine the effects of l-arginine loading (3X3 grper day for 7 days) on aerobic and anaerobic performance of 15-17 age high school basketballplayers .In this study, 24 volunteer male players of DÜZCE Province Basketball Teamswhose mean age is 15.70±62 years old, participated. The Aerobic power values of subjectwere determined by using the Beep Test (Shutlle Run). In addition, anaerobic Power values ofthe players were determined by using Bosco Jump Test. For agility performance IllinoisAgility Test and for the body composition Behnke-Willmore Test were used.. After initialmeasurment, subjects were randomly divided into three groups of l-arginine, placebo , andcontrol groups. L-arginine group was given 3*3 gr on a daily of 7 days. Similarly, placebogroup received the same amount of sugar powder for / days. On the other hand, Control groupdid not receive anything in terms of ergogenic aids. The result of the study showed thatanaerobic power of l-arginine group increased significantly from 78.47±15.87kg-m/snto82.49±17.12kg-m/sn (p<005). However, there were no significant changes observed inanaerobic power of Placebo and Control groups. In aerobic power values, there were nostatistically siginificant diffrerences in all groups (p>0.05). But, the data of L-Arginine groupindicated that there was a statistically significant differences from pre-test to post test results(46.33±8.32ml/kg-min to 48.87±7.32ml/kg-min respectivel; p<0.05). Even though, for agilitydata, there were statisticallly significant differences between pre-test and post-test resultswithin each group, there were no statistically significant differences among groups (p>0.05).Also, body composition and body weight values of the subjects did not chamge tehere wereno significantly in all groups (p>0.05).The results were further discussed and elabroted.Key Words: L-arginine, Basketball, Anaerobic Power, Aerobic Power, Agility, BodyComposition and Weight.
