Relationship between neutrophyl-lymphocytes and c-reactive protein of left atrial thrombus in non-valvular atrial fibrillated patients

Abstract (EN)

The aim of our study is to investigate the predictive role of CRP and neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio, which are inflammation markers, in thrombosis formation in nonvalvular AF patients. 461 patients over 18 years of age who had nonvalvular AF and underwent TEE for the purpose of showing left atrial and / or left atrial appendiceal thrombus at the Akdeniz University Medical Faculty Hospital Department of Cardiology between March 1998 and August 2016 were included the study. 240 of the patients were male and 221 were female who were included in the study. In 289 patients, left atrial or left atrial appendiceal thrombus were not detected by TEE whereas thrombus was present in 172 patients. CRP levels and neutrophil-lymphocyte ratios of the patients who were included the study were recorded and statistically processed. As a result of the processed data, CRP levels and neutrophil-lymphocyte ratios were found to be similar between patients with and without thrombosis in patients with nonvalvular AF. In addition, no significant difference was found in the analyzes performed in two groups with CRP level equal to/ less than 0.5 mg/dL (normal value) and over 0.5 mg/dL. However, in patients with AF, CRP levels were found to be higher than the normal reference range. All these results indicate that, thrombus formation in patients with AF is not associated with inflammation parameters.
