A comparison and applicability of different visual field tests on healthy subjects

Abstract (EN)
PURPOSE: In our study, the relationship of different visual field tests with gender, age, educational status and test repetition were examined on healthy subjects who don't having any systemic disease and ophthalmologic pathology except simple refractive errors. The effect of these parameters on the test period, reliability and global indices were evaluated. MATERIAL AND METHOD: One hundred fourteen eyes of fifty-seven subjects were included in the study. Short Wavelength Automated Perimetry (SWAP) with Humphrey visual field analyzer and Flicker perimetry with the Octopus 900 device to the first group; SITA-fast and Short Wavelength Automated Perimetry (SWAP) with Humphrey visual field analyzer to the second group; Flicker perimetry with the Octopus 900 device and TOP (Tendency Oriented Perimetry) tests to the third group were performed. Tests were repeated two times to all subjects including the first day and first week. RESULTS: In Group I, in the second measurement in the Flicker group, reduction in test period and significant decrease were found compared to the first measurement in the false positive response and MD and PSD values. In the SWAP group, in the second measurement, reduction in test period, loss of fixation, significant decrease in MD and PSD values were observed. In group II, in the second measurement in the SITA-fast group, reduction in test period, compared to the first measurement significant decrease in false negative response and MD and PSD values were observed. In the second measurement in the SWAP group, reduction in test period, loss of fixation, significant decrease in the false positive and false negative response, MD and PSD values were determined. In Group III, in the second measurement in the Flicker group, reduction in test period, significant decrease in false positive response and PSD values were found to be compared to the first measurement. In the TOP group, in the second measurement, reduction in test period, a decrease in the false positive response and MD values were observed. No significant difference between the two sexes was determined in the test period, reliability and global indeces. MD and PSD values were found to be higher in the individuals with a high school education level and below this level. CONCLUSION: In our study, in all tests, reduction was determined in the test repetition and test period, in the reliability and global indeces. With test repetition, patient compliance was found to be increased. While an inverse correlation was observed between the false negative response and MD values with age, other indeces showed no significant correlation with age.
