Comparison of glucose degradation product and receptor levels in diabetic and normal pregnancy

Abstract (EN)

The aim of our study was to asses the diagnostic values of new biochemical markers which can be alternative to OGTT and determine the differencies between our groups. We determined glucose degradation products and receptors for pregnants with GDM and impaired glucose tolerance by using results of 50 gr GDM and 100 gr GDM screening tests taken between 2015 and 2016 years in our hospital. Afterwards, we compared our results with control groups. 180 pregnants divided into 3 groups. GDM group included pregnants with gestational diabetes mellitus (n=59), IGT group included pregnants with impaired glucose tolerance (n=50) and control group included pregnants with below the treshold values (n=71). 3 groups were evaluated in terms of biochemical parameters such as Serum Human Advanced Glycation End Products (AGEs) levels, Carboxymethyl Lysine (CML) levels and Receptor for Advanced Glycation End Products (RAGE/AGER) levels, body mass index (BMI), age, fasting glucose levels, obstetrics parameters and gestational age. Data was asessed with Kolmogorow-Smirnov test. We used One-Way ANOVA test for comparations of parameters showing normal distribution and Kruskal Wallis test for parameters showing abnormal distribution. Data were estimated as mean ± standard deviation. Chi-Square test used for qualitative data comparisons. Data within the 95% confidence interval and with P values < 0,05 were considered significant. Age parameter was found as statistically insignifacant in the control group, impaired glucose tolerance group and gestational diabetes group. Whereas fasting glucose levels and BMI in 3 groups found as statistically signifacant. Number of gravity, parity, living child and abortus found as statistically insignifacant in all groups. Also gestational age found as statistically insignifacant. AGEs, CML, RAGE/AGER levels found as statistically signifacant (p=0,000). In this study AGEs, CML, RAGE/AGER levels usage for diagnosis and screening of gestational diabetes investigated for the first time in literature. In our study we appointed these parameters signifacantly higher in impaired glucose tolerance and gestational diabetes cases.
