Therefore, the population censuses that existed in every period continued to exist during the Ottoman period. Population censuses have been conducted in the Ottoman Empire since the early periods in order to determine the individuals responsible for paying taxes and the presence of soldiers. The first example of the Ottoman census conducted is the tahrir notebooks.
