Abstract (EN)
While Atabeq of Mosul was a state dependent on Great Seljuq Embre, it began moving independently in a period when Seljua Empire was about to fall apart. This Atabeq title among Seljuqions was given to those who dealt with nurture of the Emperor's children. The title was firstly given to Nizamü'l-Mülk, Seljua vizier. Trying to declare sultan's son as sultan belonged to Seljuq dynasty. Atabeqs started setting up their own empery with the state's weakness. Meanwhile, the Zengîe appearedin that way. And Nureddin Mahmut bin Zengî was one of the mast famous person of the Zengî. İmadeddin Zengî, founder of the beylic, was one of the eminent commanders of Gread Seljua Emperor Melikşah and son of Kasımu-d-Devle Aksungur, Aleppo's governor. He was assigned as atabeq for replacement after Aksungur's being martyrized in 1126. Nureddin Mahmut b. Zengî was born in 1118. After his father's death in 1146, coming ti Aleppo, he ruled over the west of the country. İn the meantime his brother Seyfeddin Gazi ruled the east, but he was dependet on Nureddin Mahmud b. Zengî. During his reign for 28 years, Nureddin Mahmud b. Zengî gained great victories against Crusaders by ensuring unity and solidarity among the Muslim Nureddin Mahmud b. Zengî was a great statesman who even thought of conqısering Constantinople after invading Jerusalem, which had been taken by Chnistions and put his stamp on history as the fairest ruler with his justice inferior to Hz. Ömer and Ömer b. Abdulaziz Howerver, that he passed away in 1174 because of throat inflammation hindered these aims from happening. The Zengî, keeping their existence for a while after Nureddin Mahmud b. Zengî's death, ruled till 1233 by falling under Bedreddin Lülü's rule Although Nureddin Mahmud b. Zengî left unforget table marks on Turkish history, he was a man not being laid stress on. So, our studying with the purpose of introducing Nureddin Mahmud b. Zengî according to his period to next generations was approved. Our thesis consists of three chapters after a prolog, ıtends with on evaluation and a conclusion. While Atabeq institute and the Zengî in first chapter; Nureddin Mahmud b. Zengî's life and comprenhensive characteristic were put forward in second chapter, Nureddin Mahmud b. Zengî's struggle with crusaders was examined in last chapter. İt is found acceptable to be explained Atabeq institute later in general by giving information about the Zengî and shedding light on Nureddin Mahmud b. Zengî's period. Nureddin Mahmud b. Zengî, who had a great importance on Turkish history and belonged to crusaders during his whale reign. His biggest dream was building a strong front against crusaders by ensuring a full-cooperation among Islamic countries neighbouring with crusaders and writing them under his own control. By giving information about 'Zenginler' and examining the period of Nuredding Muhmut b. Zengî, the institution of Atabeq could be better analysed.
