Analysis of Nurettin Topçu's approach to social change

The aim of this study is to understand Nurettin Topçu's understanding of social change, which has an important place in Turkish thought life; to analyze human internal world, history, society and social institutions. Topçu lived in a period of intense political and social developments and in a society where social changes were clearly seen. The education he received in Europe is seen in his multi-faceted intellectual background and his reflections on his enthusiastic inner world. Topçu also made suggestions for social change within the framework of certain values he advocated as he touched social changes in societies. In this study, firstly, the concept of social change and its theoretical development are discussed. Then, the effects of Nurettin Topçu's life, thought world, personality and influential personalities which are thought to be effective in his understanding of social change were tried to be explained. For this purpose, literature review and semi-structured interview techniques were used. Searched for answer for the questions "How was the intellectual background formed that shapes the idea of social change in Nurettin Topçu?" and "How does Nurettin Topçu discuss the social change?". As a result of the study, Nurettin Topçu's understanding of social change; it is revealed that societies think that they follow a cyclical line of change that is not flat in the historical process. In this study, it was found that the philosophy of action from Topçu's perspective was the source of social change; and will, democracy and secularism as factors that cause social change. The fact that Topçu's Westernization-oriented changes caused the Turkish nation to lose its essence and that the solution was to rely primarily on the inventor forces that established the nation was another outcome of the study. His understanding of social change; while it is against every kind of change that takes man away from the essence and the way that leads to Allah; opposite changes are welcomed and they provide these changes to design the program.
