The effect Of cinematography On Nuri Bilge Ceylan's movies

It can be stated that under the transformation of cinema from a technological entertainment tool into artistic production and expression; the development of many elements such as story, camera movement, lighting, editing, color, framing and the deliberate combination of these elements lies. The concept of cinematography, which refers to the process of making the intellectual and abstract visible, is one of the most effective elements in a motion picture that carries it to an artistic level. A conscious cinematographic approach is also seen in the films of Nuri Bilge Ceylan, who is an important director in Turkish Cinema and who has proven himself with his international successes. In this context; it becomes important to analyze Nuri Bilge Ceylan's films in terms of the cinematographic elements, to determine the cinematographic changes between films, and to examine the extent that the image adds to the narrative in technical and aesthetic terms. In this research the aim is to examine the establishment of the narrative and how the cinematographic elements relate to it, in the films of Nuri Bilge Ceylan that are Kasaba (1997), Mayıs Sıkıntısı (1999), Uzak (2002), İklimler (2006), Üç Maymun (2008), Bir Zamanlar Anadolu'da (2011), Kış Uykusu (2014), Ahlat Ağacı (2018). The results of the research suggest that the director used cinematography intertwined with the story as a means of expression while creating his films, he has been in constant search since his very first film, and in this context, his cinematography and his preferences are constantly transformed. It is also seen that he is on the decision maker position on the work of cinematographer.
